This project originates from Genesis 2:17, which refers to the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. I wanted to create a package that can hold tea made from this tree, using its leaves and fruit, which can create a tea that will make you smarter when you drink it. This is where the name originates, Malum Thea, which is Latin for “Apple Tea.” Knowledge has been passed from generation to generation, and in many ways, this is what we see with envelopes: knowledge is passed from one person to another. Also in the Bible, the New Testament is a collection of letters written by apostles passed from church to church, containing the knowledge of Jesus, what He has done for us, and His teachings. The Scriptures as a whole are the world’s greatest love letter, full of truth and knowledge that God gave to us. I wanted to create a container for the transfer of knowledge that will be passed from one person to another, so that they might gain new knowledge. To gain this knowledge, the customer must heat water and place the envelope into it; the packaging will dissolve, and the tea will begin to steep. Knowledge is not big and flashy, but it comes in the small, everyday pieces
of life, and I wanted to incorporate this idea with the tiny envelope.
